Who We Are
M/s Mahabir Stores, operating under the brand name JIVN, is a wholesale distributor and repacker of spices, dry fruits, sugar, makhana, pulses, cereals, superfoods, and FMCG grocery products, located at 25, Maharshi Debendra Road, Burrabazar, Kolkata 700007, West Bengal, India. Founded in 1978 by Sri Bishnu Kumar Manpuria, the firm is currently led by Mr. Varun Manpuria and serves wholesalers, distributors, and grocery retailers across West Bengal, Assam, Odisha, Tripura, Bihar, and Jharkhand. The company holds FSSAI State License No. 12819019000224 and is registered under GSTIN 19AXDPM5259M3ZS.
From Mishri to Masala: A Burrabazar Story
Every big business starts with one small product. For us, it was Mishri — sugar candy.
In 1978, Sri Bishnu Kumar Manpuria set up a small trading counter in the heart of Burrabazar, Kolkata. He had one product, one dream, and the kind of honesty that made people come back. Before long, the market knew him by a name that stuck: "Mahabir Stores — Mishri Wala."
That name wasn't given by a marketing agency. It was earned. One kilo at a time. One customer at a time. One handshake at a time.
By the mid-1980s, the business had grown from Mishri to sugar wholesaling — and it became one of the strongest arms of our operations. For decades, if you needed sugar in bulk anywhere in Eastern India, chances are it passed through our hands at Burrabazar.
The Next Generation
In 2009, the baton was passed to the next generation. Varun Manpuria took the helm — not to change what his father built, but to build on top of it. The values stayed the same. The ambition grew bigger.
In 2016, came the big leap. While sugar remained our foundation, Varun diversified the business into wholesale spices, dry fruits, makhana, pulses, superfoods, and FMCG grocery products. The idea was simple: if a distributor in Assam or a grocery store owner in Odisha needs anything for their shelves, they should be able to get it from one place — from us.
Today, we manage over 295 products across multiple categories, stock 120 items ready to ship at any time, and source the remaining products fresh from the best markets as per order. Our monthly business runs into crores of rupees, serving hundreds of wholesale buyers across six states.
And we still operate from the same Burrabazar. The same market. The same values.
Why JIVN? Kyunki Yeh Sirf Business Nahi, Jeevan Hai.
When it was time to create a brand in 2016, Varun didn't hire a fancy branding agency. He looked inward.
He wanted a name that would outlive him by more than 100 years. A name that wasn't just a label on a packet, but a reflection of his life's work. His soul searching. His jeevan.
Jeevan means "life" in Hindi. But "Jeevan" was too common — too many brands, too many conflicts waiting to happen. So the spelling was made unique: JIVN. Four letters. One lifetime of meaning.
The Elephant: Slow, Steady, and Unstoppable
The JIVN logo is an elephant — and every detail has a reason.
It had to be Indian. This is an Indian business, built on Indian values, serving Indian markets. The elephant is as Indian as it gets.
It had to be steady. An elephant doesn't rush. It doesn't chase trends. It moves slowly, but it moves forward — always. That's how we've built this business. Not with shortcuts, but with consistency. Dheere dheere, lekin pakka.
It had to be auspicious. In Indian tradition, the elephant represents Shri Ganesh — the remover of obstacles, the god of new beginnings. Every business needs that blessing.
It had to carry health. Look closely at the logo. On the elephant's back sits a mortar and pestle with herbs and leaves. This represents our commitment to health-promoting products — our Superfoods range, which is nothing but simple, natural food that promotes gut health and overall wellness. No chemicals. No artificial nonsense. Just food the way it should be.

A business is only as strong as the people who run it. And we are blessed with a team that most companies can only dream of.
Some of our team members have been with Mahabir Stores for over three decades. They started working under Sri Bishnu Kumar Manpuria, learned the trade from the ground up, and have stayed through every season — good and bad. A few of these veterans were given well-deserved retirements in recent years, but quite a few remain. They are our lighthouses — guiding the younger team with the wisdom that only 30 years of Burrabazar experience can give.
This is not a startup with a fancy office and no experience. This is a family business with 47 years of market presence, run by people who can tell the quality of turmeric by its smell and the grade of black pepper by its weight. Yeh experience kisi MBA se nahi milta.
